One of the USP of AIM for Seva’s flagship programme, Chatralayam is that they are conceptualised and designed in such a manner so that the children living in such premises become environmentally conscious from early on by adopting sustainable living practices.
Of the 101 Chatralayams that are operational currently more than half of them (54) are green buildings. In addition, 63 Chatralayams have a kitchen garden in the premises ensuring a farm to fork experience for the students on a daily basis, while 19 have a goshala ensuring that our students get a protein rich diet.
Our sustainable living model recently got another shot in the arm when the District Governor of Bangalore Lions Club, Dr. G.A. Ramesh and other Lion Club members attended the inaugural function of the solar water heater and computers installation at the Swami Dayananda AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Girls, Yelahanka, Karnataka. On this occasion, the hostel students organised a cultural show and thanked the donors by presenting them with Pujya Swamiji’s books and handmade paintings.
In addition to contributing 500 lpd of solar water heaters, three computers and tables, Bangalore Lions Club has also contributed other utility items such as cycles (two), hot boxes (four), tea containers (two), chargeable batteries (two), one electric hot water jug and 20 bedsheets.
