On the occasion of our Founder Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati’s Aradhana day (23rd September 2022), we share a thoughtful excerpt from one of his writings.
You can look at anything in more than one way. You can look at a rose and remark, ”Oh the rose is beautiful but it has thorns,” or in spite of thorns, the rose is beautiful.” Both views are all right, because they are based on facts.
“Rose is beautiful, but it has thorns,” is the complaining way of looking at a rose. “In spite of thorns, the rose is beautiful,” is a positive way of looking at it.
There are many people who advocate positive thinking as a means to overcome sadness. However, it cannot solve the problem of human sadness for good, for where there is positive thinking there must be a fact that makes it a factual positive thinking. If it is so, there is going to be another fact forming the basis for negative thinking.
As long as there are facts, negative thinking will always exist along with positive thinking.
