Sustainable Development
Sustainability is essential to protect our environment – for us as thinking beings, it is the enlightened way to live. AIM for Seva advocates and works towards this vision by producing food in sustainable ways and enhancing rural livelihoods.
The core activities across our projects for sustainable development include:
- Conserving and cultivating heritage rice varieties
- Growing medicinal plants, vegetable crops and native trees
- Using only natural farming methods
- Using cattle by products such as cow dung and urine for bio -fertilisers
- Encourage seed sharing
- Providing the ‘how to do natural farming’ training programmes for villagers
- Diversifying from the single-crop system to growing multiple crops
Our Projects for Sustainable Development:
- Swami Dayananda Farm, Manjakkudi: 50 acres | over 272 varieties of organic heritage rice
- Swami Dayananda Farm, Tuticorin: 13 acres | Fruits, vegetables and flowers
- Swami Dayananda Goshala, Manjakkudi: 1.5 acres | 94 cows of indigenous breed
- Spirit of the Earth, Chennai: 1,300 sq.ft | Immersion Centre that creates a dialogue on food and sustainable living | www.spiritoftheearth.in
