In crisis times like these, AIM for Seva is engaged in relief work. It is doing this directly and is also giving a helping hand to other like-minded organisations who are helping the poor and needy in their hour of end.
To this end, the coordinator and staff of the GVKC AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Boys, Vetapalem, Andhra Pradesh, have allowed a local NGO (non governmental organization) to use the kitchen facilities at the Chatralayam premises for Annadanam purposes. All the boys residing in this Chatralayam are back home safe and the hostel is empty.
Seva like Annadanam on the ground can be effective, powerful and long lasting when donors come forward to do Danam or contribute towards worthy causes. Recently, members of a prominent organization came forward and donated groceries to the staff at the Swami Dayananda AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Girls, Belgaum, Karnataka. The coordinator and staff at the Belgaum Chatralayam in turn joined hands with the local government officials and distributed groceries to 50 needy families in the area.
The Swami Dayananda Ashram at Rishikesh, Uttarakhand is also at the forefront of relief work. Led by Swami Divyananda Saraswati ji, the Ashram team is giving a helping hand to countless migrant workers in the north Indian belt who are stranded on the highways and interiors without money nor food on account of the lockdown. Swamiji and his team are helping by providing food and lodging by erecting tents and pandals for these these workers.
On 18 April 2020, 600 persons from the nearby area were provided food by the Ashram. The following day, 800 people partook in the Annadanam service. Since its inception in March 1964, the Swami Dayananda Ashram is known for its bhandaras (where food is cooked and collectively offered to many sadhus). Our founder, Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati loved to organise bhandaras when he was in Rishikesh and he would personally attend to every one of the attendees.
Meanwhile, the boys who at the Shri Giridhari Lal Seth & Dr AB Seth AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Boys, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, continue to do their daily curriculum of value-based education that includes prayers for well being of all. Recently, a group of supporters who visited the boys at the Chatralayam in Lucknow came back impressed with the clear chanting, discipline and perseverance shown by the students from a tender age in such tough times.
