P. Duvaraga, a student of the Semmangudi Higher Secondary School, Sembangudi, Tamil Nadu, scored 95% in the recent Class 10 board examination and stood first in her school.
She recounts her journey in her own words.
“I am a student of the Semmangudi Higher Secondary School, Sembangudi, Tamil Nadu. I am living and studying at the Swami Dayananda AIM for Seva Chatralaym for Girls (Junior), Sembangudi, Tamil Nadu.
My mother’s name is Anusuya while my father’s name is Palani. Some time back, my father met up with an accident. As a result, his mobility got restricted and the duty of looking after the family fell on my mother’s shoulders.
I always wanted to study but back home; finances were a constraint as was food. To fulfil my academic pursuits, I shifted to the Swami AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Girls, Sembangudi, Tamil Nadu. In the recently concluded Class 10 board examination, I scored 474.
There was encouragement from all sides. My teacher told me that I was a bright student and if I continued with my studies, I would surely come first. Similarly, Mataji (Swamini Swaminathapriya ji, my hostel coordinator), also encouraged me to do my best. Our Chairperson and Managing Trustee, Smt. Sheela Balaji also took a personal interest and motivated me to work hard and study hard. Also, the hostel environment was conducive and I got three nutritious meals every day. All this enabled me to concentrate on my studies.
My ambition is to become an IAS officer. For that, I will have to continue to study hard. A lot of people have helped me to reach where I am today and I am grateful for their support. I joined the AIM for Seva Chatralayam as back home; my family was facing financial difficulties. Today, I am very happy.
I will continue to study and score high in the Class 11 and 12 examinations and keep my school and Chatralayam’s flag flying high. I am thankful to all my teachers, hostel coordinators and others for believing in me and inculcating and interest in academics.”
