One of our students will soon graduate to become a homeopathic doctor. A native of Varanasi, from Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, Kanchan Yadav joined the Swami Dayananda AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Girls, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, in 2011 when she moved to Class 7.
She comes from a large joint family that is into agriculture and dairy farming. One of her uncle’s who worked at the Arsha Vidya Pitham, Rishikesh, came to know about AIM for Seva and decided to enroll his two daughters and niece in the Dehradun Chatralayam.
Till Class 10, Kanchan studied at the Aryan Vidya Mandir High School, Dehradun. She completed her intermediate from Shiv Shiksha Niketan High School, Dehradun. Kanchan is currently pursuing a degree in homeopathy at the Chandola Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand.
She recounts how AIM for Seva helped shape her personality.
“Namaste. I am currently pursuing my second year now. I would like to share my association with AIM for Seva. We have girls coming in to the hostel from different parts of India. At the Chatralayam, we lived as one big family and used to help each other out. At the AIM for Seva Chatralayam, I learnt how it was important not to be dependent on any one else and do one’s own work.
As part of value education efforts, we used to listen to Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati‘s (the Founder of AIM for Seva) lectures every week.
I was at the AIM for Seva Chatralayam from Class 7 to 12. When I joined the Chatralayam, it was a different experience, a whole new world built on the concept of a shared living space. In due course, I learnt a lot of new things. I learnt the importance of a daily routine. We also used to do yoga every morning without fail. We were also taught lessons from the Bhagavad Gita.
At the Chatralayam, we were exposed to different extracurricular activities and we could choose one depending on our aptitude. There was art and dance and many other activities. Most importantly, life’s many lessons were learnt early on. I learnt how it was important to co-exist with others, extend a helping hand to others in their times of need. We were always taught to focus, look ahead and achieve our goals. I don’t think I would have learnt all of this if I were part of some other institution.
I will continue to work hard and be honest and devoted to whatever I do. I will continue to be extremely focussed as that will help me achieve my goals. In many ways, AIM for Seva has been the turning point in my life. Had it not been for the AIM for Seva Chatralayam intervention in the early part of my life, I don’t think I would be doing this medical course today. What I have learnt by living in the Chatralayam eco system has been very precious to me. We were taught how to be confident, socialise with others, how to view various situations in life and how to move ahead, all this and more was imbibed during my Chatralayam days.
I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to AIM for Seva. “
