2000 to 2020 – A 20-year journey in educating children from rural India

20 years. 7300 days. Over 20 million lives impacted. This is our story. A story of how the effort to reach out to children in rural and tribal parts of India birthed a national movement that is empowering people at the grassroots.

To commemorate our 20-year journey, the first All-India Meet of all Chatralayams as held at the Swami Dayananda Ashram in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, on October 31 and November 1, 2019. Here, we were able to see how our work has impacted each child who comes to our Chatralayams.

The representatives from all 104 Chatralayams spoke different languages, and most of them could not comprehend what the other was saying. Yet, each one was polite and empathetic of the other’s needs, be it when they were standing in line, serving food or helping with the activities during the meet. When the time for sharing their experiences came, every child listened in rapt attention to the speaker – it was clear that they had connected beyond words.

These children are the people who will lead our nation tomorrow – and we are sure they will do a good job of it.

All this would not have been possible without the support of each and every one who has contributed towards our work over these years – and kept us going.

Thank you for walking this journey with us.
